Por Mis Hijos / For Them

documentary, Interior Spread

What is a woman willing to do to make a better life for her children? Norma, a Latin American immigrant in Barcelona, combats the solitude and the barriers to the livelihood of a family that longs for her kilometers away.

Like thousands of Latin American women, Norma arrives in Barcelona hoping to find work to help support her family back in her home country. In a challenging job market, searching for employment becomes a fierce competition for survival among those in need.

Day after day, Norma walks through the streets of Barcelona, trying to combat her loneliness while imagining the possibility of seeing her loved ones along the way. Each walk she takes has an uncertain destination, but her perseverance keeps her standing tall. Although the separation from her family is meant to be temporary, she understands it could be a long time before they are reunited.

Norma is making the ultimate sacrifice so that her children can receive a proper education and gain the opportunities she never had. They are constantly on her mind, and her happiest moments occur when she calls them. In each conversation, she strives to be part of their daily lives, even through the phone.

"Por Mis Hijos" [For Them] is the story of those willing to overcome obstacles and take risks to provide their children with a better future. It is the story of thousands, told through the experience of a courageous woman.
