Aymée Cruzalegui | Filmantropo Productions, owner

Filmantropo Productions is an independent production company dedicated to creating human-interest documentaries. We aim to showcase the world's diverse experiences by sharing compelling stories from a personal perspective. We firmly believe that documentaries can spark conversations and foster empathy, helping us understand the realities of individuals from all walks of life.

Aymée Cruzalegui is an independent documentary filmmaker with 25 years of experience in media production, spanning broadcast, digital platforms, and independent projects. She has worked with notable companies such as MTV Networks, Nickelodeon, and Discovery Channel. Throughout her career, she has navigated the diverse landscape of content creation, producing everything from short videos to full-length documentaries.

Her talents particularly shine in her roles as director and editor, where she focuses on underrepresented stories. Her award-winning short documentary, "POR MIS HIJOS," follows a migrant woman in Barcelona overcoming obstacles to provide for her children miles away. This film received praise at several festivals, including Documenta Madrid, Cine Las Americas, the London International Documentary Festival, the NYC Short Film Festival, and the Miami Short Film Festival. She has also contributed as a producer on "PAPER CHILDREN," a documentary about children fleeing gang violence in Central America. Additionally, she served as co-producer and co-editor on "STILL STANDING," which poignantly captures the challenges faced by a first-grade teacher during the pandemic.

Currently, Aymée is developing "THE LAST SEA KNIGHTS," a documentary that tells the story of a Peruvian fishing community battling the relentless forces of the climate crisis to preserve a 3,000-year-old tradition, their identity, and their future.

Recently, Aymée directed and edited "ALL WITHOUT WORDS," a feature-length documentary that explores composer Justin Morell's emotional journey to create a symphonic jazz masterpiece inspired by his experience as the parent to a nonverbal autistic son. Her most recent project as producer and editor is "WITH GRACE," a short documentary that takes audiences on a complex journey through the life of a 93-year-old Cuban lady.

Aymée holds a Master's in Social Documentary from the University of Barcelona, Escuela de Cine y Audiovisuales de Cataluña (ESCAC). She is an alumna of organizations such as Chicken & Egg Pictures, the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, and the International Documentary Association. Born in Peru, Aymée now resides in Miami with her husband. In addition to her work in documentary filmmaking, she is also a photographer and an entrepreneur.
