Aymée Cruzalegui
Aymée Cruzalegui has been producing, directing and editing television programs for international companies such as MTV Networks, Nickelodeon Latin America and Discovery Channel for more than 18 years.
Right around the time when Soda Stereo debuted it’s MTV Unplugged show, Aymée landed her dream job with MTV Networks Latin America. She was creating music-driven shows and producing interviews with musicians on a daily basis.
After a decade with MTV, she wanted to expand her horizons so she packed her bags and headed off to Barcelona for a Master program on documentary filmmaking from ESCAC. Needless to say, it came in handy. Her documentary film “Por mis hijos” (“For Them”) won top awards at Documenta Madrid, Cine Las Americas, Miami Short Film Festival and NYC Short Film Festival. With a deeply empathetic eye, her work draws from her own experience as a Peruvian immigrant, to explore the complexity of living between two worlds. She is a grantee of Chicken & Egg Pictures and of South Florida Cultural Consortium for Visual and Media Artists. Currently she is editing a feature documentary about the America’s invisible refugee crisis, children fleeing gang violence in Central America. She is co-founder of the Miami Filmmakers Collective and the owner of Filmantropo, an independent production company focus on documentaries.
