About the filmmaker

Aymée Cruzalegui is an independent documentary filmmaker with a rich background in media production, boasting 25 years of expertise across broadcast, digital platforms, and independent projects, with experience in companies like MTV Networks, Nickelodeon, Yahoo!, and Discovery Channel. She has navigated the diverse landscape of content creation, crafting a spectrum that ranges from concise videos to immersive full-length documentaries.

Aymée's talent shines particularly in her directing and editing roles, where she's drawn to underrepresented stories. Her award-winning short documentary, "POR MIS HIJOS," follows a migrant woman in Barcelona battling isolation for her children's sake, earning acclaim at Documenta Madrid, Cine Las Americas, and NYC Short Film Festival. Her involvement as a producer in "PAPER CHILDREN," a documentary centered around children fleeing gang violence in Central America, as well as her work as co-producer and editor on "STILL STANDING," a poignant story capturing a first-grade teacher's pandemic-era challenges, underscore her dedication to telling stories that matter.

"THE LAST SEA KNIGHTS," her documentary in development, profoundly explores a fisherman and his tradition-rich community's existence on the climate crisis's frontline. Lately, she was commissioned "ALL WITHOUT WORDS," a unique feature-length documentary she has written, directed, and edited. The film weaves a composer's emotional journey, inspired by his non-verbal autistic son, yielding a symphonic jazz masterpiece.

Aymée's educational journey includes a Master's in Social Documentary from the University of Barcelona (ESCAC), an experience that enriched her storytelling perspective. She is an alum of organizations such as Chicken & Egg Pictures, the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, and the International Documentary Association. Born in Peru and living in Miami, she embodies diverse cultural influences that enrich her artistic vision.
